Osaka has been the gateway to overseas and the center of Japan's economy since ancient times. In recent years, it has been a key factor in increasing the traction to Japan's economy as a leader of the industrial revolution, and this has produced a large number of major industries and corporations.
Osaka's industry is a reason that it is known as the City for Medium sized Companies. 65% of the companies are involved in industrial manufacturing in Japan, located in Osaka, and many of these claim a large share of the world's markets with their home grown technology.
Since Osaka is the economic capitol of Japan, cargo ships are very popular as they import and export many goods out of the Osaka Bay. Cargo ships have allowed international trading with Japan and Osaka. Lastly, this creates good terms with other foreign countries and also improves the economy of Osaka.
Osaka grew when it became the capital. It became a place for new jobs and opportunity. Eventually, the capital changed from Osaka to Tokyo, Osaka still kept its power in economics. There is currently air pollution and water pollution as environmental challenges in Osaka due to it being a large industrial city.
